A fishing adventure with my brother, Mark Stewart, is truly a bucket list experience everyone should have.
Mark is one of the kindest, friendliest, and most genteel people you'll ever meet. Spending time with him feels like a vacation in itself.
His summer schedule is fully booked, not just because of his exceptional fishing skills but because he's such a remarkable person.
An adventure with Mark is comfortable, memorable, and awe-inspiring. We head out on his 27-foot Trophy boat, usually early in the morning as the tides begin to turn.
The trip takes us into some of the most breathtaking wilderness on the planet. We often encounter sea lions, bald eagles, humpback whales, orcas, and a myriad of other flora and fauna, all set against the stunning backdrop of British Columbia's highest snow-capped mountains.
Mark ensures we stay warm and well-fed as he navigates us through the exciting tidal environments of the famed Discovery Passage.
I've caught it all with Mark: massive ling cod from the depths of Seymour Narrows; red-fleshed sockeye; typical chum and pink salmon (perfect for canning, smoking, and making candied salmon); rare coho; and, of course, plenty of Chinook!
I fly out from Québec once a year to see my brother, and each trip brings a new, life-affirming adventure.
Fish on!
